Peterson and Marshall Engagement

I had the pleasure of photographing an engagement session for my best friend, Andrew and his beautiful fiance Jenna this weekend. Andrew and I grew up together in Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's been a few years since we've seen each other, and over a decade since Andrew visited Bend so it was so nice to have them visit, even if it was a short trip. I've known Andrew for 25 years and I have never seen him happier. Congrats, you two!

Engagement sessions and wedding photography are the future of my photography business. I have a year left to complete my Bachelors in Business Management at OSU Cascades. Upon completion, I will be a full time photographer, which is of course very exciting!

Thank you, as always, for reading and following my photo journalistic journey.

Please send all engagement and wedding inquires to iancsmythe@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Ian

Mr. May

Chris Casad or as his friends have taken to calling him, "Mr. May" is the subject of my most successful image to date. The name, "Mr. May" comes from light-hearted jabs from Chris' friends after this photo was selected for the Oregon Farm Bureau's 2014 calendar for, you guessed it, the month of May. This image has also been featured in, and today it was featured on the front page of The Bulletin. Chris is a first generation farmer and owner of Juniper Jungle Permaculture Farm in Bend, Oregon. I have had the great fortune of knowing Chris and his family for well over a decade, and I can honestly say that you would be hard pressed to find a person with more integrity or a better work ethic.

A great resource for finding and supporting local farmers in Central Oregon is Central Oregon Locavore where this image is to be featured in their "Faces of Framers" project. COL is a  local non-profit who run a variety of educational programs as well as a local food market in downtown Bend.

Cheers,

Ian
